What a well-written and moving post on your father, and what an exceptional man he was. Thank you for sharing this with us. I love that expression "painting the air."

Nutmeg, you chose the father for your children very well. I'm sure they'll have many wonderful stories to tell later on -- about both of their exceptional parents!

This moved me on various levels aside from how exquisitely you write. It filled me with longing for a father I didn't have, and it filled me with peace because you've also described the father I chose for my own children. Lucky you!

Thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts.

Cindy, yes, I still often feel my dad around me. It's a comfort. I'm glad you can also recall some special moments with your dad.

Meredith, we'd had a family dog before that but she was my first dog. And a most amazing dog she was. She was a beautiful little sheltie who was my constant companion until she died at eleven.
