There’s nothing worse than watching your dog struggle to get comfortable. If you’ve been following our journey, you know Kenzie deals with hip dysplasia, so finding a spot where she can lie comfortably without overheating or resting directly on the hard floor is always a priority.
I was recently sent the Thick PCM Dog Cooling Mat for free to test out. I’m usually skeptical of pet products making big claims, but after giving it a try at home, I do really like it!
Here is my honest take on how it’s working for us:
My Thoughts & Favorite Features
- Better Cushioning Than Our Last Mat: To be clear, this isn’t a full orthopedic memory foam bed, but it is noticeably thicker and offers more padding than the previous cooling mat we were using. That little bit of extra cushion makes a big difference in keeping Kenzie off the bare floor while she rests her hips.
- Effective Cooling Tech: It uses Phase Change Material (PCM) and Arc-Chill 3.0 technology to absorb body heat, staying 5–8°F cooler for hours without needing electricity, ice, or freezing.
- All-Season & Reversible: Flip it over when it gets chilly—one side is designed for summer cooling, while the reverse holds gentle warmth for cooler months.
- Durable & Portable: The fabric feels sturdy, the core is waterproof, and it features a built-in handle that makes it super easy to fold up and toss in the car or move around the house.
The Verdict
While it won’t replace a heavy-duty orthopedic bed (and it’s not trying to), it’s a huge step up from standard thin cooling pads. The extra padding combined with active cooling gives Kenzie a comfortable, supportive spot to relax her hips. It’s definitely earned a permanent spot on our floor.
