Rywell Dog Cooling Mat Review

My dogs hate the heat. All three of them struggle all summer long to find the coolest spots. If there’s a fan, there’s a dog underneath it. If there’s a cross breeze, a dog is lying in it. If there is a tile floor, yep, careful not to step on another dog. You get the idea.

I’ve tried several “cooling mats/blankets,” including this gel mat (27″x43″), but it’s oddly heavy and has to be hand-washed. And this Cooling Blanket for Hot Sleepers is technically not a dog cooling mat, but a twin-size cooling blanket (60″ x90″). I use this to cover a chair by my desk, so all three dogs can pile on it. It’s machine washable and it would also work great to put on a couch, if your dogs are allowed on your furniture.

But, I have to say this Rywell Dog Cooling Mat is the overall winner. The size (44″ X32″) is perfect for easy portability and it’s lightweight. In the above photo, I brought it out on the deck after unboxing it, and I couldn’t even get it put down without them all trying to get on it. It’s nontoxic, breathable, and machine washable, and the fabric stays cool to the touch. Since I’ve had it, there’s pretty much never not been a dog lying on it.

The mat also changes color from blue to a lighter color as it absorbs your dog’s body heat. That feature doesn’t matter to me, but some people might like it. Just be mindful that you don’t want to put this in direct sunlight. If you’re using it outside, you’ll want to keep it in the shade.

Full disclosure: the company sent me this for free in exchange for an honest review. That said, I’m off to buy another one full price, because it’s that good. And with 3 dogs, one can never have too many cooling mats.
