What’s Wrong With This Picture

Tech Talk

I was recently invited to speak on a Tech subject.

That’s me under the red arrow giving a slide presentation to a group of web developers.

Do you notice anything a little askew, perhaps?

Like maybe that I’m the only woman in the entire group?  (Actually there was one other woman there who took the photo.)

And this has been true for practically any tech gathering that I’ve been to!

Calling all women! We need to start making our voices … Read More

Gardening in November– Sort of…

Even though I put my gardens to bed last month, I’ve still got garden dirt under my nails. That’s because Cait has conscripted me to help her get her biology project started.

Biology Project

She asked me to get 30 pea seeds to grow so that she can then see how they fare with various amounts of water everyday. As you can see, she has 6 groups of 5 plants that she will be summarily stunting to various degrees by over or … Read More

Days of the Long Shadows

I especially love the fall for its brisk air and special kind of light.

LongShadows

And I especially hate it because of having to turn the clocks back. That’s because this guy has no concept of daylight savings time!

Graidy-EST

I don’t mind having learned to become an early riser to make sure Graidy can get himself outside at the crack of dawn. But I do mind having to now get up at what feels like the crack of the-middle-of-the-night. Two weeks … Read More

Do You Dress Up Your Animals for Halloween?

A dog-loving friend sent me this photo of her Halloweenie dogs.

I also get pictures of them in Christmas costumes. This friend doesn’t have 2-legged children, so her dogs fill some of that role. Any dog would be lucky to call her their dog mom. What she accomplishes with her rescue pups is truly amazing!

While I always get a giggle out of her photos, I’ve never thought about dressing up any of my dogs. So I’m curious–

Do you … Read More

I think it’s time we stop buying anything for our pets from China. Anybody remember how many thousands of dogs were killed a few years back because of bad dog food from China?

Is Monthly Heartworm Medicine Necessary?

You guys know that I try to keep unnecessary meds/shots under control. So when it was time to buy more heartworm medicine, I realized it’d been a couple of years since I’d researched the latest findings. I decided it was time to dig back in to find the current “facts”. Following is a map of heartworm incidence by state. Read on below to see my current protocol.

Spread the Word about Advertising Free Dogs on Craigslist

Sunbear Squad has asked that I pass along this message:  Please spread the word to anyone who may be thinking about rehoming their dogs or cats. Never advertise your pet on Craiglist (or anywhere else for that matter)as “free to a good home.” Sadly, Craigslist, in particular, has become a magnet for mentally ill animal abusers and dog fighters who torture and kill pets.
