Looking for an Unusual Christmas Gift?

lifelike stuffed toy australian shephard

As I’ve previously shared, Cait has serious puppy hunger. And she flip flops back and forth between getting an Aussie now (the power of Kiera lives on) or waiting a bit.

I try to remain neutral and supportive because I know there is never a “good” time to get a dog. You just have to decide to make it work. So I listen and look as she shares feelings and Australian Shepherd breeder websites.

I thought that I might … Read More

I Thought I Was Ready for an Aussie-Cavalier Puppy but…

I recently got a note from a reader who was very honest in sharing her predicament:

Hi Karen,
I recently got a now 4 month old Aussie x cavalier mix, on an impulse buy. I thought I was ready for a dog. I was ready to put in the time and work with a puppy since I had spare time at this point of my ljfe. I signed him up for puppy training courses, puppy play dates, and a hired

How to Safely Greet a Fearful or Anxious Dog

Three Non-Negotiable Dog Training Commands

As my long-time readers already know, as far as I’m concerned, training never stops. By continually working with our animals to build trust and responsiveness, we have a better chance of ensuring their safety and our ability to fully get to enjoy them.

I recently had a conversation with another dog-loving friend about dog training, and what we would consider the essential must-have-down-cold training commands. While both of us have what others would consider to be highly trained dogs, the … Read More

17

This is what 17 looks like at our house.

Graidy, our white BC mix, is 17ish–we don’t know his age exactly since he came to us as a stray at about 1 yo.

He still runs around like a puppy. Nobody can believe he’s that old when they meet him.

Wink, our Cavelier is 11. Finn, our Maine Coon cat is 14. All going strong.

I think there’s longevity in the water here. (That and lots of love, high-quality food, … Read More
