One Big Happy Family

White Tail Deer

A white tail deer, half hidden in the tall grass behind our second pond, is munching on an early morning breakfast.

This mama has two kids and they live back behind those trees. They’re part of our wildlife family that shares this land. I’ve gotten to know their schedule and routes through the property as well as I know my own. As I have with the foxes, coyotes, rabbits, herons, geese, ducks, turtles, and sundry other 4-footeds. How Could I Have Forgotten…

Cait came running in to alert me and my niece who’s visiting about the new iPhone update — ios7.

Cait: “Look at this! They’ve changed everything!  I don’t like it.”

Amanda: “Oh yeah, it’s that new flat color look.”

Mind you, they live on the same block as a hospital AND a police station!

Guess it’s all what you’re used to… : )  Click to listen to Night Sounds in the Northeast … Read More

Diva Dude

rescue dogPeople who work in Rescue have learned to get pretty creative when it comes to writing descriptions for challenging dogs they hope to find good homes for. This ad (written by a friend) works hard at both making this rescue dog seem appealing, while giving the clear message that he’d be a handful in the wrong home. This is the best kind of “truth in advertising.”

Resource-Guarding Cats?

FinnWatching Finn dig into some of his favorite wet food, it occurred to me that I’ve never seen a cat resource-guard. Could just be my limited cat experience, or just that as a rule I’ve been lucky with the cats I’ve had. Worst cases were former feral cats who would simply withdraw from the food and wait for me to leave. But no growls or bites or claws directed at me.

Then again, cats are not the tight social species … Read More
