Boarding Your Dog: Tips and Warnings

With summer vacations fast approaching, and having to make a decision on where to kennel my own crew for an upcoming annual family vacation, I’d like to share some tips and warnings on where and how to leave your pets behind.

Years back, I started with a highly recommended dog boarding kennel that I will never, ever use again! From there, I went to a kennel I adored that had been recommended by a dog-trainer friend, then moved on to … Read More

A Piece of My Heart

Magic has been on my mind a lot recently, as I help a friend who is trying to help her dog with some aggression issues. Fortunately for her and her dog, it’s not a neurological problem, as Magic’s was. With some consistency and strong, clear boundaries, I think they’ll both be fine.

Even while I can say I’ve finally gotten over the “what if’s” and the “if only’s” with Magic, I haven’t gotten over him. This quote pretty much sums … Read More

Having just talked about dogs overheating yesterday, it was serendipitous to find this post over at Dog Gone Blog today.

Jenn had asked about solutions to keep her dog from tipping over his water dish outside. Well here it is! Lixit Dog Waterer. I love brilliant, simple solutions. And this is a great one for keeping your dog in cold, clean water all summer long.

You just screw on the Lixit Faucet Dog Waterer to an outdoor faucet or … Read More

How to Tell if Your Dog is Overheating

I have two hot dogs panting around my desk. They’ve both been outside with me for the last hour trotting beside me while I mulched the lawn. Well, that’s what Kiera was doing. Graidy was mostly chasing birds. I took a look at their tongues, decided it was time to quit, and had them jump in their wading pool. We’ll cool it for the rest of the afternoon. It’s too hot out for prolonged non-stop exercise for them.

Dogs only … Read More

Pea Popping Party

Just back in from the garden, where the peas will be ready to pick in a few weeks. Nobody in our family loved peas more than Magic. We’d have to race him back there just for the chance to eat a few raw off the vine, before Magic would have them all polished off.

He would have been eight today, if the neurological damage from Lyme disease hadn’t claimed him far too early.

We Give Our Dogs This Respect. Why Not Our Kids?

It’s a good thing I get up early, because one of the walkers (with dogs) on our road passes by around 6:30 am. I make sure my dogs are inside and the dog door is closed, so that this woman can walk by in relative peace. Relative peace, I say, because Kiera and Graidy both seem to find it constitutionally necessary to get off at least a few barks each from inside the house.

As the day unfolds, a parade … Read More

Most Current List Of All Recalled Dog Food

Go to List of all recalled dog food.

Menu Foods, Inc., expanded its recall Tuesday, April 10, to cat food not previously subject to the recall. The varieties of cat food in the United States and Canada now being recalled are included in the spreadsheet in the above link.

If your brand is on the list, make sure to check the code on the spreadsheet against the code on your can. If they match, stop feeding that food immediately and … Read More
